Pendant Jewelry

I love pendant jewelry. My grandmother had an amber pendant that she would sometimes let me wear. She had noticed my childish love for her treasure chest of jewelry and especially her pendant jewelry collection. I loved the amber pendant in particular. I’ll never forget the way the sun seemed to radiate from within that pendant.

As a wedding present, my grandmother gave me a number of beautiful items from her jewelry box. Among them was the amber pendant I so coveted as a child. That was my start as a serious collector. Over time, I have acquired my own pendant jewelry pieces to add to my collection. Eventually my daughter will get these as she’s displayed the same fascination with pendants as I did.

Between what was left to me by my grandmother and what I have acquired myself, I now have several dozen pendant necklaces. I love estate sales and sometimes you just have to go for something while you have the chance. Pendant jewelry collecting is becoming more and more popular. I have no doubt a lot of the attraction is piqued by stars on the red carpet – inquiries about my collection always increase in the month after the Oscars.

It was inevitable that I would one day find a piece of pendant jewelry to die for! I happened upon a rudy drop pendant in an antique shop that captivated me. The asking price nearly choked me, but I had to own it. I had no resources to buy this exquisite pendant, so the time came for me to part with other items in my growing collection. Using the internet , I sold a very nice earring and matching pendant jewelry set plus two other pieces in a matter of two days. Happily, I got more money than was needed to make my purchase.

My own collection of pendant jewelry has become more varied and valuable thanks to the world wide web. Using the internet, I have located sellers of rare and unique pieces that I would never be able to obtain in my neck of the woods. At the same time, I have found grateful buyers for pieces that I am willing to part with at the right price.

I never forego an opportunity to hunt down the next piece to add to my pendant jewelry collection. On a recent trip to Europe, I visited a region known for its ancient family lines. A number of familes have lived in the same area for thousands of years, making this a fertile ground for locating antiques. I managed a gorgeous pendant which then fetched triple what I paid for it.

I’ve had my share of mistakes when it comes to collecting pendant jewelry. I don’t consider myself an expert by any means. I know what appeals to me and have an idea of what will go well with my own collection. I still need to refer to various resources for valuation, but for the most part, I’ve managed to come out ahead. Even with my mistakes, there is usually another collector looking for that exact piece, so go figure!
